LYD MARIE

Lyd Marie brings a world of experience to her debut self-produced album. As one of the only women to have studied and mastered the Senegalese talking drum, her unique rhythmic landscape merges folk, americana and neo-soul with profound lyricism. Co-founder and percussionist of Austin’s beloved all female world folk band Ley Line, Lydia Froncek steps into uncharted territory in her solo project Lyd Marie. She draws on her strong percussive background and love for collaboration.

A developed songwriter who has worked as a mentor with refugees, young mothers, war veterans and everyone in between, Lydia’s songs are defined by their honest vulnerability. In 2024 Lydia founded Tone Shift Collective hosting monthly events in Brooklyn to uplift women, non-binary and gender expansive producers and artists.

As a member of Ley Line, Lydia has performed at festivals around the country including Austin City Limits, Telluride Bluegrass, Kerrville Folk Festival. Her solo project is a world of its own waiting to be discovered.

Lydia’s love for West African music began at age eighteen and eventually led her to Senegal in 2013 where she began an intensive study of the Tama, or talking drum. Since graduating from Pitzer College in 2015 with a self-designed major Anthropology of Expressive Culture, Lydia has returned to Senegal 6 times to study the language of the talking drum with her teacher Bara Mbengue. She has shared stages with Masamba Diop, Bombino, Daby Touré, Brownout and more…
